Gloucester Pawn is a family owned and operated business by folks that live right here in Gloucester. We happily opened in December of 2009 to serve the banking needs of Gloucester County and its surrounding communities as the pawn industry has for hundreds of years! We buy, sell, trade, and make loans on nearly anything of value. We have a huge selection of items for sale...collectibles, jewelry, guns, electronics, art, tools, and so much more. Pawnbroking History

The earliest records of the pawn brokering industry date back to 5th century Chinese monasteries. In fact, Christopher Columbus's discovery of the Americas was funded largely by the proceeds from pawning Queen Isabella of Spain's jewels! But today's pawn shops are predicated more by the Medici family of Italy in the 15th century.

When the family was split in two, one half of the family became bankers and the other, pawnbrokers. The pawnbroking side of the family took with it half of the family crest, which incorporated the now instantly recognizable sign of the pawnbroker, the famous three gold balls. It should come as no surprise that the origins of banking and pawnbroking are so closely entwined - pawnbroking is, after all, simply another form of banking.
